There are many alternatives to regular vacations & accommodations that families need to know about. On this page, we list a few suggestions. Please contact us for more information on each of these.

Family Camps - Generally inexpensive camps where the whole family can have fun in the traditional "summer camp" style. Activities vary per camp but may include arts & crafts, hiking, horseback riding, seasonal sports such as swimming, boating, kayaking, etc. Families may stay in individual cabins or dormitories, depending on the camp. Generally food in included in the price, but let them know upfront if you have special requirements.

Meet a Family - Meet a Family programs can be set up in advance so that a traveling family who wants the chance to meet a local family can join together for an activity or meal. This is a custom arrangement which can be set up through Family-Friendly Vacations upon request. For a meal, generally the hosting family will be paid a fee that covers purchasing and preparation of the food.

Home Exchanges - There are many home exchange clubs which families can exchange their homes with other families around the world. This isn't for everyone, but you are usually covered by homeowners insurance for having someone stay in your home and vice versa. Each family sets up their own list of rules and requests, puts away any valuable and/or breakable items, and agrees to each others terms in advance. Sometimes thrown in with the house will be the family car, which makes it a very cost-effective vacation indeed.
